Rock strata in the Gorge walls tell the stories of huge glaciers, volcanic upheavals and powerful, raging water. See the natural phenomena known as potholes - deep, well-like chasms, including the Adirondacks' largest, 7 feet wide and 35 feet deep, formed by large stones that swirled in the vortex of the river for centuries.
